Use the Advanced tab to configure the advanced options of Bandwidth Splitter.

It is possible to enable a rather exact heuristic appraisal of header packet size for UDP connections by checking the box Count packet headers of UDP connections. This allows a more realistic appraisal of traffic used by UDP connections. However, this is impossible for TCP packets due to the specifics of the protocol. For the TCP protocol, the effect of header packet size upon real combined traffic is not so significant as in the case of UDP because of its data flow architecture.

Note. To count the bandwidth and the traffic, Bandwidth Splitter uses by default only the amount of data transmitted on the application layer (the payload). Due to this its information output can differ from the output of utilities counting the amount of traffic on the network layer. For the reason that Bandwidth Splitter is an Forefront TMG extension, it cannot access the network layer.

Use the Enable HTTP Boost checkbox to enable the technology of traffic acceleration for surfing. If this option is activated, you can select a content type set in the HTTP Boost content type set list, for which the HTTP Boost mode is to be used. Only the MIME types that belong to the given content type set are taken into account, but not file extensions. By default, this group is made up by text and HTML content, images, JavaScript and Flash animation. However, you can change the composition of this content type set at own discretion: for example, add some more content types to them.

If the Enable HTTP Boost option is disabled, the HTTP Boost settings of shaping rules will not affect anything. See more detailed information on HTTP Boost in topic Shaping Rules.

When the Treat connections from External network as accepted/inbound checkbox is checked, the routed connections from External network to computers in DMZ (perimeter network) will be associated with target computer. Source and target addresses will be interchanged, and connection direction will be reversed. This allows shaping and quota rules to be applied to computers in your network, not to external source addresses.

On this page you can also change the processing method for connections for which no shaping and/or quota rules were found. By default (when Do not filter connections is selected), such connections are excluded from processing. However, full exclusion occurs only when both types of rules are not found. If Quota Rule exists but there is no Shaping Rule, quotas will be applied but no shaping occurs. If Shaping Rule exist but there is no Quota Rule, shaping will be applied without traffic volume limits. But if neither shaping nor quota rule is found, such connections will be completely excluded from processing. They won't be displayed in monitoring, and no licenses would be used for them. This option allows to test Bandwidth Splitter when you have just free license for 10 clients, but you have much more users in your network.

If Deny connections is selected then connections will be denied if quota or shaping rule is not found (at least one kind of rules). That is both shaping and quota rule must exist for all connections you want to allow. Even if you don't want to set speed limits or quotas for some clients, you should create a rule with unlimited quota or speed limit. You should have a license for necessary number of clients, that will include all your clients.
